EXO (엑소) adalah boyband Korea Selatan yang dibentuk tahun 2012
dibawah manajemen SM Entertainment. Terdiri dari dua belas anggota yang
dibagi dalam 2 sub unit EXO K (Korea) dan EXO-M (Mandarin).
Akhir Desember 2011 SM Entertainment mengumumkan akan membentuk satu group boyband baru yang akan dipecah menjadi 2 kelompok Korea dan Cina. Secara bertahap seluruh anggota EXO diperkenakan melalui teaser video di chanel resmi youtube EXO. Member pertama EXO bernama Kai diperkenalkan 22 Desember 2011. Berturut-turut sampai 27 Januari 2012 kedua belas anggota EXO diungkapkan SM Entertainment dalam video teaser secara berurutan diantaranya Lu Han, Tao, Chen, Sehun, Lay, Xiu Min, Baek Hyun, D.O, Suho, Kris dan Chanyeol.
Setelah meluncurkan perkenalan member dengan 23 Teaser video, pada tanggal 30 Januari 2012 EXO merilis video prolog berjudul "What Is Love" sekaligus mengungkapkan pembagian kelompok, dimana member Suho akan menjadi leader untuk EXO-K dan Kris memimpin untuk EXO-M. 8 Maret 2012 EXO merilis prolog kedua mereka berjudul "History".
31 Maret - 1 April 2012 EXO memulai debut musik pertamanya dengan menggelar Showcase di Korea dan Cina. Sesuai dengan moto kelompok yang disebutkan SM Entertainment “EXO-K dan EXO-M adalah boy band baru yang akan memimpin industri musik dunia mulai sekarang! Mereka memulai debut di hari dan jam yang sama dengan lagu-lagu yang sama di China dan Korea. EXO merilis mini album berjudul "MAMA" pada tanggal 9 April 2012.
